Song – Final Flight

January 6th, 2011 No comments

SpinTunes 2, Round 3 This was actually the third round song out of the four. Still trying to do a little catch up here, and hey! Look who I found! She may look a little shiny and waxy, well, that’s because she is shiny and waxy. The week this song was due, the family went to Madame Tussauds in NYC for a little visit. I had no idea she was there and it only cemented my idea of writing a song about her fictional mechanic.

The challenge this round was to write a song about an unknown character from history and the connection they had to a major historical event. Could be real or a fictional character. This was about as close as I ever came in one of these competitions to giving up in the middle of a song.  Thanks to my wife’s constant encouragement, I was able to get it completed. The majority of it was written and recorded the day it was due.

My first idea was to write a song called Jesus Christ’s Sandals Maker but too many S’s got in the way of singing it. I eventually went with Amelia Earhart’s mechanic which was the working title up until I sent it into SpinTunes. It’s about a constant battle with guilt the mechanic is having, thinking that it might have been his fault that she went missing. Every night he goes to sleep thinking about it, then has nightmares of checklists. When he wakes up, he waits for her to return. The cycle continues over and over.

Here is the album to all the songs in the round. http://spintown.bandcamp.com/album/spintunes-2-round-3
